A Study on Microbial Air Pollution of Subway Stations in Seoul
Kim Jong-Oh

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the distribution of microbes at subway line 3 in Seoul. We measured falling microorganism at six subway stations from September 2001 to August 2002. The results are as follows. The average amount of dropping bacteria at the waiting areas of the six subway stations in Seoul is 233.17CFU/plate. The minimum is 193.25CFU/plate at Gongduk station while the maximum is 287.50CFU/plate at Dongdaemoon Stadium station. The average amount of dropping bacteria at the wickets of the six subway stations is 191.88CFU/plate. The minimum is 154.50CFU/plate at Jongro 3-ga station while the maximum is 239.00CFU/plate at Dongdaemoon Stadium station. The average amount of dropping bacteria at the rest rooms of the six subway stations is 205.46CFU/plate. The minimum is 175.50CFU/plate at Jongro 3-ga station while the maximum is 252.50CFU/plate at Dongdaemoon Stadium station. We could hardly find a difference in the amount of dropping bacteria among a waiting room, a wicket and a rest room where we extracted the samples. The seasonal variation of falling microorganism at the subway stations in Seoul is in order of Summer> Spring > Autumn > Winter.
